Joan Carole Hand lives in Rocky Point on the North Shore of eastern Long Island. A native New Yorker, Ms. Hand did her undergraduate work at Bard College. She is a recipient of a Master of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminar, as well as a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshops. She has taught and lectured widely on the college level, and her poetry has been published throughout the United States and Canada, as well as having been translated into Italian and Macedonian In 1989, she represented America athe Struga Poetry Evenings in Macedonia. She is the author of two other books of poetry: Entrances to Nowhere and The Facts of Life. She is the mother of three grown children—Jessica, Emily, and Daniel—who are all artists in some capacity or other., and grandmother to Zoe Samantha and Katrina Francis.
