Mineola, New York, USA & Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Legas 2013 1881901955 / 9781881901952 First Paperback New Poetry 6 x 9 Photographer: Giuseppe Mineo For Nat & Nina Scammacca
“Barkan’s Jewish soul has found in Sicily a receptive and maternal ambience. Perhaps his ancestors were among those who were forced to leave in 1493 when Spain chased them out of the island which had been their homeland for more than a millennium. So these poems are a coming home, not to Jerusalem, but to Sicily.” —From the Foreword by Gaetano Cipolla President, Arba Sicula

30 Barkan, Stanley H. Zhao Si, Chinese Translator No Cats on the Yangtze
Oyster Bay, New York The Feral Press 2017 First Paperback New Poetry 6 1/2x 11 John Digby
The poems in this collection are a selection from the 38 I wrote while my wife, Bebe, and I were on a 2001 Victo¬ria River Cruise down the Yangtze, before the Three Gorges project covered the thousands of ancient villages resulting from its construction. What I saw and felt, particularly the encounters with the people of China, with a sense that I was traveling not just through a country but through Asian history in its many stages, I wrote about each day in my journal. The 38 poems were the result. This selection is the third and final step towards the publication of all 38. I’m grateful to Hong Ai Bai for agreeing to translate the first 10, published in Sailing the Yangtze, to Zhao Si for translating the others, Gambling in Macáu and the others here in No Cats on the Yangtze, to John Digby for providing images that complement the poems, and to John and Joan Digby for designing, editing, and publishing this chapbook in their New Feral Press. —Stanley H. Barkan January 27, 2017

Under the Apple Tree/Pod jablonia, Barkan, Stanley H.--Adam Szyper, Translator
37 Barkan, Stanley H.--Adam Szyper, Translator Under the Apple Tree/Pod jablonia
Krakow, Poland Oficyna Konfraterni Poetow 1998 83-86900-64-4 / First Paperback New Perfect 4 1/2x6 1/2, 96 pp Bozena Korska
Stanley Barkan has a way with him that tends to get the best out of people and out of words. Now, however, I wonder whether or not he has gone too far. With the Polish version of his Under the Apple Tree, I feel that his eloquence and sensibility have been carried over, to see that it still tastes like a macintosh or like Old Scratch's Granny Smith. But ever if, it will be pleasurable. Stanley has that effect. --Gregory Rabassa, World-renowned translator of Spanish & Portuguese literature, including two Nobel Prize winners, Asturias & Garcia Marquez
